Interior Comparison
The 2024 Subaru Ascent offers three rows of seating and a spacious 153 cubic-foot interior. Some trims offer a power tilt-and-slide panoramic moonroof as well. This reduces the interior volume to 150 cubic feet. Meanwhile, the 2024 Murano offers just two rows of seats. The vehicle offers 108 cubic feet of passenger volume. Hence, the 2024 Ascent can transport up to 8 people, while the 2024 Murano can accommodate up to 5 people. This makes the 2024 Ascent more practical for larger families.
Furthermore, Subaru offers a captain chair configuration for some trims of the 2024 Ascent. This reduces the total capacity to seven. However, it replaces the second-row bench with two separate seats. These seats offer separate adjustment capabilities and their own armrests.
The 2024 Ascent also comes with cup holders for all trims. Higher trims add illuminated second-row USB-A and USB-C charging ports, plus third-row USB-A ports. Tri-zone automatic climate control is standard across the 2024 Ascent range. The 2024 Murano doesn't have many of these features and only offers dual-zone climate control.
The 2024 Ascent has 18 cubic feet of cargo space when its three rows are up. However, you can easily fold the last row to get a cargo volume of up to 44 cubic feet. This is far better than the 2024 Murano's 32 cubic feet of space in the same configuration. Furthermore, folding the second and third rows in the Ascent gives you cargo space of up to 76 cubic feet. Hence, you can transport a myriad of items, including furniture and home appliances.
Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard for all trims of both family SUVs. They also include Bluetooth® hands-free and wireless audio connectivity. Higher trims of the 2024 Ascent come with a Harman/Kardon premium sound system and 4G LTE Wi-Fi capability. Subaru also offers a Cabin Connect system. This enables front-row passengers to communicate with third-row occupants via the rearmost speakers.

Performance Comparison
Every 2024 Ascent gets a powerful 2.4-liter, 260 HP, 4-cylinder Boxer engine. The engine develops 277 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with Subaru’s Lineartronic® CVT gearbox and includes paddle shifters for manual gear selection. Furthermore, Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system with active torque vectoring is standard. Subaru’s X-Mode® drive selector is standard for all trims, including hill descent control and hill start assist.
The 2024 Nissan Murano has a 3.5-liter, 260 HP V6 with 240 pound-feet of torque. A CVT gearbox is standard. Buyers can choose front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The latter is a basic all-wheel-drive system that doesn't offer the advanced capabilities of Subaru's system.
The 2024 Ascent range can tow up to 5,000 pounds, depending on trim choice. The 2024 Murano only offers a 1,500-pound towing limit.
Safety Features Comparison
The 2024 Subaru Ascent range gets Subaru’s EyeSight® driver assist technology suite as standard. This brings advanced adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic emergency braking, automatic emergency steering, and lane-keeping assist features. Further standard features include a high beam assist, vehicle dynamics control, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Higher trims add blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic assist, and lane change assistance. Subaru's DriverFocus® distraction mitigation system also comes for higher trims, as does reverse automatic braking. Buyers can even opt for a surround-view monitor. The 2024 Murano isn't as comprehensively equipped.
